After a two-year pause, the Marghi Cultural Festival returns to Madagali this December, bringing together clans from Borno and Adamawa for three days of dance, wrestling, craft markets, and oral storytelling.
Organisers expect delegations from Marghi Central, Marghi South, and Marghi West, alongside diaspora chapters travelling from Lagos, Abuja, London, and Atlanta. The opening procession will be led by traditional rulers and accompanied by the iron-bell ensembles that mark all major Marghi ceremonies.
A dedicated archive tent will record performances for the Living Archive, allowing elders to deposit oral histories directly with the documentation team. Families are encouraged to bring heirloom textiles and tools for photographic documentation.
Registration for craft stalls opens six weeks before the festival. Proceeds support the language scholarship fund and the ongoing digitisation of clan manuscripts.
