Manifesto

Built for the ancestors.

The Marghi Heritage Project is a community-led digital initiative dedicated to the documentation, preservation, and celebration of the Marghi people of northeast Nigeria.

The Marghi (also called Margi) live across Borno and Adamawa States, with significant communities in Madagali, Michika, Askira-Uba, Lassa, Uba, Chibok, and Damboa. Our people speak a Chadic language with a deep oral tradition, sophisticated iron-working heritage, distinctive weaving practices, and ceremonial life that has survived colonisation, conflict, and displacement.

This archive is open, free, and built by Marghi people for Marghi people — and for any student, scholar, or friend of our culture. Records and artifacts are contributed by clan custodians, family heirloom holders, and partner institutions across Nigeria and the diaspora.
